Massage is one of the oldest healing arts. Application of soft-tissue manipulation techniques to the body are generally intended to reduce stress and fatigue, and improve circulation. The benefits of massage may be varied and far-reaching.
Massage therapy has been used beneficially for many chronic conditions, ranging from lower back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunological disorders, infertility, through to depression and cigarette addiction.
There are many massage techniques, including so-called 'tui na', which combines techniques of massage and acupressure. The therapist may use different parts of their body to apply pressure, rubbing, percussion or stretches to the patient's body.
